Kentucky stoneware pottery druggist jug with incised script, "Nock & Snyder Druggists, Market & 2d Streets, Louisville, Ky". Partial Albany slip glaze applied to back half with salt glaze applied to front. Very good condition with chipto handle, various firing flaws. 8-3/8" H. Late 19th century. Note: Robert Snyder was born in Paris, Ky in 1847. In 1870 he took a position with the firm of Wm. Nock & Son, the oldest drug house west of the Alleghenies. In 1881 hepurchased half interest and the firm name was changed to Nock & Snyder. Mr. Snyder was the director of the Louisville College of Pharmacy for over twenty years and was one of the first members of the Kentucky PharmaceuticalAssociation.
