1st item: English Regency rosewood tea caddy with hinged, sarcophagus form lid having brass hinged handle and latch, cord inlay to edges and base, diamond-shaped escutcheon, and bracket feet. Opens to a triple compartmentalized interior with green-fabric lined lid, two rectangular metal containers having round lids, and one rectangular metal container with hinged, domed lid. 6 1/2" H x 10 1/2" W x 6" D. 2nd item: Walnut square form tea caddy with hinged lid having central shell inlaid medallion, kite-shaped inlaid escutcheon, paper internal lining, and green felt lining to base. 4 1/4" H x 4 1/2" W x 3 7/8" D. Both items likely English, early 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Margaret Harold Roberts, Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with minor scattered surface wear, partial detachment of fabric lining, and oxidation and wear to internal caddies. Key missing/not included. 2nd item: Overall good condition with scattered surface wear, some minor shrinkage to wood, wear to corners, and scattered losses to paper lining. Latch mechanism no longer functions.
