Six (6) Asian items. 1st-4th items: Three (3) Chinese Sancai glaze roof tiles, depicting a foo dog, horse, and human with rooster, plus one (1) Blanc de Chine ox and boy figure. All ranging in size from 5 1/8" H to 7 1/4" H. All items unmarked, early 20th century. 5th item: Buddhist travel shrine or reliquary, having a black lacquer hinged exterior with curved sides, containing a painted gilt interior depicting two deity figures with a black wooden Bodhisattva standing atop a giltwood lotus plinth. 7 1/2" H x 3 3/8" W x 2 1/2" D. Late 19th or early 20th c. 6th item: Indian Hindu palm leaf prayer book comprised of two wooden covers with painted scrolling floral decorations and string binding containing leaves with lines of Telegu script to both sides. U.S. Customs label to end of one cover. 2 1/2" H x 17 1/2" W x 2" D. 19th century or earlier.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edith (Edie) M. Bass, Nashville, Tennessee. Most of the items from her estate in this auction were by descent from her parents, Walter Paul McBride and Claire Childs of Lake Forest, Illinois .
CONDITION: 1st four ceramic items: All pieces overall good condition with general expected wear. Travel shrine: Surface wear, scattered discoloration to gilt, natural age shrinkage, largest 1 1/4", to lacquer. Bodhisattva appears to be missing two arms. Prayer Book: Majority of leaves appear to be intact, some with flaking, tears, and possible insect damage. String binding is not fully intact.
