Grouping of two East Tennessee walnut blanket chests. 1st item: Small walnut blanket chest with hinged top having a canted molding and three exposed tendons running the length of the lid, dovetailed sides, base with ogee molding transitioning into large dovetailed feet with stepped brackets. Retains the original lock, poplar secondary. 22 1/2″H x 37 3/8″W x 19 1/8″D. First half of the 19th century. 2nd item: Diminutive walnut blanket chest with large canted bracket feet, nailed case construction, green interior paint. Yellow pine secondary. 17 1/2″H x 31 1 /8″W x 15 3/8″D. Mid 19th century. Provenance: Blount County, TN Living Estate. Condition: 1st item – refinished, missing the original hinges, replaced blocks to feet. shrinkage cracks to back board. 2nd item – refinished, scattered insect holes in yellow pine boards.
