1st item: Ripley, Illinois cobalt decorated 4-gallon salt-glazed stoneware pottery storage jar, having a thick rolled rim, lug handles, and incised line encircling the jar below the handles. Faintly cobalt stenciled “W.H. Clark/Manuf’r/Ripley, Ills” and “4” to the side together with applied feather decoration to the lower base edge. 11 3/4″ H. 19th century. 2nd item: Large 6-gallon capacity stoneware jar with rolled rim, lug handles, and incised lines around the body at the base of the handles. Applied cobalt “6” denoting capacity with other freehand cobalt decoration. 13 1/2″ H x 1 1/2″ W.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition, fleabites to both handles, spider above cobalt feather. 2nd item: Overall good condition, a couple of chips to the rim and scattered fleabites to the underside of the handles.
