Charter establishing the Shelby County, Tennessee Agricultural Society, dated Sept. 30, 1855, and signed by Andrew Johnson as president of the society (note: Johnson would go on to become President of the United States,1865-1869). Decorative border with colored print by Nashville Union and American Print. 20" x 12". Condition: Several tears and small losses at fold lines, particularly affecting top third of document. Center smudge or stain affecting the word "county"; light toning; tape residue visible on back along fold lines.
