1st item: Carved and polychrome painted allegorical wall or overdoor hanging with various carved elements including an hourglass, an anchor, a sickle or harpoon, holly leaves, a bird’s wing and a batwing, all symbols of life and death. 13 1/4″ H x 24″ W. Probably Continental, 19th century. 2nd item: George III mahogany banjo barometer, serpentine top, set with a level, thermometer and hydrometer. 37 1/2″ L x 10″ W x 1 1/2″ D. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Michael and Peggy Mahoney, by descent from the historic homes of Clarkland Farm at Bryan’s Station and Cherrycote, Lexington, Kentucky.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with a few scattered areas of chipping to paint. 2nd item: Overall good condition. Wood shrinkage repair to case below serpentine top. Appears to be in working condition at time of inspection.
