1st item: English mahogany sarcophagus or coffin form tea caddy with geometric inlaid bands and escutcheons and brass hardware, the interior with two compartments having lids with finial handles and traces of silver paper lining. 4 5/8" H x 8" W x 4 3/4" D. 2nd item: English mahogany rectangular form tea caddy having a round mother of pearl keyhole escutcheon and brass hardware, the interior with two compartments having lids with finial handles, red floral paper lining to interior of lid, terminating in four round ball feet. 4 1/2" H x 7 1/2" W x 4 1/4" D. 3rd item: English burlwood brass mounted tea caddy having a domed lid, the interior compartment and lid lined in dark gold fabric. 4 3/4" H x 8 1/4" W x 6" D. 4th-5th items: Two (2) contemporary burlwood boxes, including one (1) octagonal form (3 3/4" H x 7" dia.) and one (1) square form with inlaid mother of pearl decoration to slightly domed lid (2 1/4" H x 5" square). 1st-3rd items are 19th century; 4th-5th items are late 20th/early 21st century.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Dr. Joe Newsom Rawlings, Davisboro, Georgia.
CONDITION: All items in overall good condition with minor areas of loss, natural age shrinkage, largest 7 1/4". Keys are not present. 1st item: Lids to compartments do not sit flush. 2nd item: 1/2" x 1/8" area of loss to mother of pearl escutcheon. Tears to interior paper lining. 3rd item: Breaks, largest 1", separations from lid, to brass bands.
