17th century Italian Renaissance carved walnut cassone or marriage chest with a slightly overhanging molded top; dentil molded trim to front of case, paneled front with carved coat of arms to center, flanked by caryatid corner supports above a gadroon-carved base edge; paneled sides, and carved projecting paw feet to the front. Interior with till to the upper left side. Includes key. 20 1/2" H x 61" L x 20" D.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with use wear and abrasions commensurate with age. Horizontal wood shrinkage to lid. Scattered worm holes. Old butterfly repairs to split across top.
