Military appointment commission's document with steel engraved stamp signature for President Andrew Johnson and hand signed by Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton, conferring the rank of Major to J. H. Remington, dated May 1866 with blue seal. Housed in black painted wooden frame. Sight – 19 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W. Framed – 22 1/2" H x 18 1/2" W. CONDITION: Some fading of ink to the center of the document, some minor stains to the upper margin, fold lines visible to the center.
