Architectural watercolor by Kenneth Harris(American, Virginia 1904 – 1983) depicting Naval Base in possibly Norfolk, Virginia. Pencil signed lower left "Kenneth Harris, 1954" and pencil titled lower right "Supply Center – Navy Base". Very good condition with some discoloration to matte. Sight – 18 1/2" H x 33 1/4" W. Framed – 29" H x 42 1/2" W. Biography (Courtesy of AskArt) – Harris studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy and worked as a commercial artist in Charlotte, NC and Atlanta before beginning a career as a painter in Norfolk, VA. He became known for his series of paintings of "Old Norfolk" prior to its redevelopment. His paintings became some of the only records of those sites. In the early 1950's, the Norfolk Museum (now the Chrysler Museum) purchased from Harris a series of thirty watercolors for a permanent collection of the city at mid-century.
