Meiji period (1868-1912) Japanese silk embroidered floor screen. The folding screen consists of four ebonized hardwood sections, inset with embroidered silk panels depicting a mountain landscape lake scene. Three pagodas are nestled in the trees, on islands joined by a bridge. A single crane is depicted in the foreground. The lower parts of the hardwood sections are inlaid with mother of pearl and ivory flowers. 70-1/2" H x 109" W fully extended. Each embroidered panel measures 57-1/4" H x 24" W. Note: this lot contains a substance which is protected and restricted in the United States and by international convention and can only be shipped within the United States. Please refer to our terms and conditions, clause 10. Condition: Some scattered stains to silk. Screen separated into two sections. Original backing missing/replaced revealing calligraphy pages used to back the silk panels.
