Two (2) Native American Mississippian Culture Arkansas pottery vessels, including Caddo human effigy. 1st item: Caddo grey ware human effigy jar with four human faces applied to top of rounded body below conical neck with flared lip, rounded base. Museum accession numbers to base. 9 1/4" H x 7 3/4" dia. 2nd item: Small grey ware pottery strirrup pot with six applied strap handles to flared lip, two rows of short incised line decorations to neck, above rounded body, rounded base. 3 1/2" H x 4 1/4" dia. 800-1600 AD. Provenance: Consignor inherited from the estate of Dr. Joseph Stickley of Chattanooga, TN (d. 2001). CONDITION: 1st item: Overall very good condition. Areas of loss, largest 1 3/4", to lip. Firing flaws to surface of body. Museum accession numbers to base, old sticker to top of body. 2nd item: Overall very good condition. Firing flaws to surface of body. 1" hairline to base.
