Large English Regency mahogany floor cellarette or bottle box, sarcophagus form with flat molded hinged top, tapering body with canted corners and paneled and molded sides, set on a separate molded base with lobed compressed ball feet. The interior retains the old metal lined bottle compartments. 35 in. W x 23 in. H x 24 in. D. Circa 1825.
PROVENANCE:
The estate of Dr. Michael Spalding, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION:
Some wear, scratching and surface losses, particularly to outer edges. Wear and some cracking to interior metal lining (no longer water-tight). Later hinge screws and chain added, lock has been removed but retained, lacks key. Castors on feet added later.
