1st item: American needlework sampler, silk on linen, alphabet bands over the name “Julia A. Drake, Sampler Age 12 yrs.” above a flower basket, tree and house with sun. Housed in a simple gilt wood frame. Sight – 14 5/8″ H x 7 1/8″ W. Framed – 18″ H x 9″ W. 19th century. Old Knaffl Bros. (Knoxville, TN) framing label en verso. 2nd item: American needlework sampler, silk on linen, alphabet bands over various illegible verses and the inscription “Harriet Neff or Haft (?) Sampler worked in the Ninth Year of her Age”, all above two houses and three potted trees. Sight – 15 3/4″ H x 17″ W. Framed – 19 1/2″ H x 20 3/4″ W. 19th century. Provenance: Blount County, TN Living Estate. Condition: 1st item: Some fading, stains and very slight losses. 2nd item: Losses to linen and needlework, especially to the center. Fading resulting in losses to needlework with some scattered staining.
