Martin Rettig (Ohio, 1869-1956) floral still life painting on canvas board depicting red and white flowers in a colorful vase with gold highlights. Signed "M. Rettig," lower right. Inscribed with biographical information to back of frame. Housed under glass in an ebonized and giltwood shadowbox frame with nameplate. Sight:14 1/2 " H x 9 1/2" W. Frame: 23 3/4" H x 18 3/4" W. Biographical Note: "The younger brother of John Rettig, Martin was well known as a painter and a Rookwood Pottery decorator. As a painter, he specialized in floral pieces. Rettig studied with Duveneck and later was considered to be an authority on the works of the master. Rettig was the president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1918 through 1920." (Source: askART).
