Continental or Regency mahogany and rosewood gilt trimmed ladies writing or work and game table comprised of a tilt top, with a leather inset writing surface having adjustable angles which slide off to reveal a deep set, gilt stamped, leather backgammon board. Top is flanked by two line-inlaid demilune storage wells with hinged lids having pierced galleys and keyholes over a lower slide-out desk. S-curve, gilt-inlaid legs raised on a tiered, I-form base with diamond inlay, atop gilt bun feet. 30 1/2" H x 30 3/4" W x 17 5/8" D. First half of the 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Minor scattered splitting to wood, largest area 7" L, as well as one repaired split to the slide-out desk measuring 15 3/4" L. Scattered minor surface wear/discoloration commensurate with manner of use. Area of discoloration to wood at back of backgammon compartment. Scattered wear to leather areas commensurate with manner of use as well as losses to leather of interior of one demilune compartment measuring 5 1/2" x 1 3/4".
