Nineteen (19) Chinese Export polychrome painted porcelain items, including Famille Rose and Armorial, some with gilt highlights. 1st-3rd items: Three (3) Famille Rose mugs, including one (1) with central vignette of figural landscape flanked by floral sprays having quilong dragon form handle and blue patterned accents throughout; one (1) with central vignette of figural landscape flanked by floral vignettes having trunk form handle and blue patterned accents throughout; and one (1) with bulbous lower portion and figural landscape. Unmarked. Ranging in size from 5 1/8" H x 6 1/8" W x 4 1/8" D to 6 3/8" H x 6 1/2" W x 4 5/8" D. 4th item: Armorial mug with central floral vignette and scattered floral sprays having foliate form handle. Unmarked. 5 1/2" H x 6 5/8" W x 4 1/4" D. 5th-6th items: Pair of Lime Green Chinese Famille Rose lidded bowls, each having a peach finial, vignettes of flowers and birds to lid and body and four elephant handles. Unmarked, one bowl with traces of a brown wax seal reading "Cust…Permission 205" to underside of base. Overall with lids: 4 3/4" H x 6" dia. 7th-8th items: Two (2) Famille Rose plates, including one (1) with a central landscape scene surrounded by a border having butterflies, birds, and other animals with precious objects (9 1/2" dia.), and one (1) depicting birds in a landscape with pink peonies surrounded by a diapered border with floral vignettes and Jui-head decorations (9" dia). 9th-16th items: Eight (8) Famille Rose items, including four (4) cups and four (4) saucers, each with floral sprays and decorative borders with floral swags, spearheads, and precious objects. Cups approximately 2 1/4" H x 3 1/4" dia. Saucers approximately 1 1/4" H x 5 1/2" dia. 17th-19th items: Three (3) cups, including two (2) matching with floral sprays and a spearhead broder to interior (2 1/4" H x 3 5/8" dia.) and one (1) cup or mug having floral sprays to body and handle and a diapered floral swag border to interior (2 5/8" H x 3 5/8" W). All items late 18th/early 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: All items with scattered minor wear to polychrome and gilt decoration. 1st-3rd items: Quilong-handled mug with two areas having old staple repairs at handle and lower body/base, minor fleabites, and small loss to rim measuring 1/4" x 1/8". Trunk-handled mug in overall very good condition. Other Famille Rose mug with scattered hairlines, largest measuring 5 3/4" L, minor fleabites to rim, and loss to rim measuring 1/4" x 1/2". 4th item: Previous repair to handle; minor losses to rim, largest measuring 1/4" x 3/8"; and spidering hairline to body, largest area measuring 10" L. 5th-6th items: Scattered firing flaws. Areas of loss, largest 3/4" x 1/4" to elephant handles. 7th-8th items: Both items with scattered firing flaws. Pink peony plate with 4 3/4" hairline extending from rim to well with few fleabites to rim, visible to underside. 9th-16th items: Scattered firing flaws, some with crazing. Cup and saucer set with pink floral sways with scattered fleabites to rims, cup with glaze exfoliation to interior. One saucer with 1/2" hairline extending from rim. 17th-19th items: Minor scattered firing flaws. Handled mug with fleabite to rim.
