French Empire style commode or chest of drawers, mahogany and book-matched mahogany veneers with oak secondary wood. Overhanging black granite or marble top over a projecting "hidden" frieze drawer, over three full-length bottom drawers flanked by columns mounted with ormolu capitals and bases and terminating in knob feet in front, block feet in rear. The dovetailed drawers have round brass knobs and gilt metal escutcheons. 36" H x 51 1/2" W x 24" D. Continental, 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Multiple veneer patches to the front, some wear and scuffs to feet, and some minor chips to the marble top. Powder post damage to back boards. Rear back feet are replaced with some restoration to the base.
