Philip B. Hahs (PA, 1853-1882) O/C painting, "On the Delaware," 1875. Depicts an artist viewed from behind while sketching a scenic Delaware Water Gap vista in the Appalachian mountains along the Delaware River. To his left is a wooded area from which a canopy of branches reaches across the canvas into the cloudy sky at upper right. Likely set near the border of New Jersey and the artist's home state of Pennsylvania. Signed and dated "Hahs 75," lower left, and inscribed en verso "'On the Delaware' near the Water Gap / Hahs, 75." With New Jersey State Museum and State University of New York, Binghamton, exhibition label affixed to back of frame. Housed in a gilt carved frame with nameplate. Sight: 13 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W.
