Kentucky needlework sampler, dated 1840, wool on linen, with decorative center floral spray cartouche and partial strawberry border at top and sides. Encloses partial alphabet and a verse: "When Youth soft seasons are all oer/ And scenes of childhood charm no more/ My riper years with joy shall see / this proof of youthful industry. Wrought by Miss Annie Penney At Finchville during the summer of 1846 ".14 3/4" x 15" sight, 18 3/4" x 19" in later stained molded frame. Note: Finchville is a small historic crossroads town in Shelby County, Kentucky, about 15 miles east of Louisville. Provenance – Lexington, Kentucky area collection.
