Large Lexington, North Carolina carrying or picnic basket comprised of split oak with alternating blue-green dyed weavers, two folding wood handles, a hinged and ribbed lid with latch and reinforced corners and solid poplar base. Pencil inscription to base reads "J. T. Hill/Lexington 1925/(illegible) 400/J. H. Yates Lex., NC/Mrs. J. H. Yates Basket/Lexington NC/Aug 11-1925" and one base support additionally signed J H YATES LEX. N.C.14 1/4" H x 18 3/8" W x 13 1/4" D. Circa 1925.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Donley and Eunice Hill, Andersonville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with surface grime and some splitting to wooden base.
