Continental school oil on canvas interior genre painting depicting two seated figures, a musician playing the lute and a woman holding a book and listening, with gothic architectural details in the background. Unsigned. Housed in a giltwood frame with acanthus leaf and bead course decoration. Sight: 19" H x 23 1/2" W. Framed:30 1/2" H x 34 1/2" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Peggy Lambert, Maryville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Heavy craquelure and light scattered inpainting. Two large horizontal tears and two vertical tears to upper middle portion of the canvas, with patches en verso, ranging from 5" to 12" L.
