Colonial Revival advertising Democratic or Whig rose applique quilt, hand quilted and appliqued. Rendered in red, green, and yellow chambray fabrics on a white/cream ground with a central floral medallion flanked by four rose sprays and an additional floral medallion in the “pillow” area of the quilt, the whole with meandering floral vines to three sides and a separate green binding applied by hand. The top is fashioned with square corners and the lower margin has rounded corners. Very fine quilting throughout including pictorial, vases, flowers, hearts, leaves, and parallel lines and cross-hatching in the background. An oilcloth label en verso reads, “Property of Emmerich Pillows Inc, Chicago, Ill #122 Democratic Rose”. One front corner with two applied oil-cloth labels detailing the history of the “very old” pattern and this “modernized” interpretation. 83″ x 96″ Circa 1930’s.

CONDITION: Unwashed condition with minute scattered spots, overall very good condition.
