1st item: Hand-pieced, quilted, and bound cotton quilt, variation of "Trip Around the World" pattern with a single white square placed between each colored square having a single border at the top; fabrics include double greens, double pinks, cheddar, and a navy and white stripe. Binding is navy with small white print. Backing panels (from 33-inch-wide yardage) are machine-sewn. Quilting has been completed by the piece. 67" H x 75" W. Circa 1880. 2nd item: Hand-pieced and quilted cotton quilt, "Dutch Rose" pattern set within white areas having feathered wreath and undulating feather borders quilting designs. The cotton prints are a double pink and a double green seen frequently in early 20th century Colonial Revival quilts. Binding is attached by machine. 74" H x 77" W. Circa 1930. 3rd item: Hand-pieced and quilted mid-20th century "Lone Star" pattern quilt in bright solid colors. The white areas outside the star have feathered wreath quilting designs. Backing is a solid yellow cotton. The quilt was likely made with a commercial pattern, not a kit. 75" H x 76" W. Circa 1935-1945.
CONDITION: 1st item: Unwashed condition. Front white squares are slightly dingy. Watermark on top near the border. The back is very clean with very light discoloration along the fold lines. 2nd item: Very clean condition overall on front. Backing has 2 sizable water stains (6 1/2 x 2") and (14" x 7 1/2") with slight discoloration on the fold lines. The cotton batting is coming out in places along the machine-applied binding. 3rd item: Pencil lines still visible for the quilting motifs; this piece has probably never been washed. Yellow backing has one darkened rectangular area (12" x 17") as well as other smaller areas of similar reddish-brown discoloration. A velcro strip is attached for hanging."
