Mahogany candlestand or small tea table, secondary wood on block appears to be pine (not tested). Circular top has carved fluted edges and is inlaid with 8 point star surrounded by curvilinear octagonal line inlay. Central turned, tapered pedestal with diagonal fluted carving on the center section and urn form base. Mortised into the base are three narrow legs cut in a cabriole design ending in snake feet. 28"H x 22-3/4" to 22-1/2" diameter. American, circa 1800. Provenance: the estate of Margaret Wemyss Connor, Nashville, Tennessee. Condition: Old dark surface. Repair to one leg and cleat. Lacking iron brace where feet join pedestal, possible inlay repair.
