Lot 255: Vintage Serapi style Rug, Mason Purcell 10 x 6

Bespoke Serapi style Carpet, 122 in x 80 in., hand loomed with top grade wool using traditional methods in the looms of Mason Purcell of Purcell Oriental Rugs, Kents Store (Charlottesville area) Virginia, circa 1990s. Note: Mason Purcell was born in Richmond, Virginia and graduated from Richmond Professional Institute with a BFA degree in hand weaving and textile design. In 1974, she and her husband, John Bolling Purcell founded the Purcell Oriental Rug Company in Charlottesville. Mason Purcell died in 2005.

PROVENANCE: Private Indiana collection.
