Two French silk embroidered and watercolor-painted oval pictures. The first, dated 1813, depicts a woman playing a harpsichord or piano on a terrace overlooking a lake, with a mountain and a castle in the distance and date below: “Le 13 Mai 1813.” The second appears to depict Eve giving Adam the apple from the book of Genesis. Both are framed under glass in matching molded and painted frames with the same measurements. Sight: 15 in. H x 12 in. w. Frame: 18 in. H x 14 1/2 in. W. 1st Qtr. 19th century.
PROVENANCE:
Ex-Linda Felts collection, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION:
Area of light staining and fading to watercolor on the first picture, center right hand edge by tree. Some scattered fading to watercolor on second picture, with some stain specks to male figure’s skin. Both frames have some surface losses to right side (one has overpaint).
