Rose Medallion soup tureen and an associated sauce tureen, each with lid and underplate, the tureens of oval form with gilded mushroom finials and branch style side handles, together with matching oval underplates, all decorated with vignettes of flowers, birds, and Mandarin figures. Bottom of soup platter stamped "China". Bottom of sauce underplat unmarked. Soup underplate – 11 1/2" H x 14" W. Soup tureen – 10" H x 12 1/2" W including final and handles. Sauce tureen – 6" H x 8" W including finial and handles, underplate – 7 3/4" H x 6 1/2" W. Both Chinese, late 19th/early 20th century. Provenance: The estate of Dr. Benjamin H. Caldwell, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Both overall very good condition. Soup underplate has 1/4" rim chip, Sauce tureen underplate has a few minute shallow scattered rim chips. Some wear to gilding at edges on all pieces.
