Aurion M. Proctor (American, 1909-1983) oil on canvas, The Circus at the Tracks, original illustration art featured on the cover of Railroad Magazine, July 1946 issue (magazine included with this lot). Signed lower center. Original wooden frame. Frame: 26 1/2" H x 2 5/8" W. Sight: 24 1/2" h x 19 5/8" W. Provenance: Passed down in family of Arthur Marchand, owners of The Knoxville Magazine Company in Knoxville, TN, circa 1946; posters and etchings were also made from this original image. This lot includes Railroad Magazine, July 1946 issue, featuring this image as the cover artwork and article, "Wheeling the Big Top", which discusses the background of the painting including information on the Ringling Brothers. Magazine 9 1/4" H x 6 3/4" W. (2 items in this lot). CONDITION: 1st item: Three holes in lower left quadrant. Thinning paint on red storage car and back of elephant. 2nd item: Minor losses to magazine cover and pages, toning of pages, and pencil marking in the upper corner of the front cover.
