Set of eleven (11) St Louis Thistle Pattern cut crystal flared cups or small bowls and twelve (12) cut crystal underplates. Bowls with thistle-shaped bowl; anthemion etched accents; fluted base with almond cuts; and gilt rinceau rims. Underplates with gilt rinceau rims and anthemion etched accents. Cups measure 1 7/8" H x 4 1/4" W. Underplate measures 7" dia. Unmarked. Provenance: By descent from USN Capt. Waldo Evans (1869-1936), commanding officer of the USS New Orleans and the USS St. Louis during World War I, Governor of Samoa 1920-22, and Gov. of the U.S. Virgin Islands from 1927-1931. According to family history, this crystal was used during Evans' tenure as in the Government House of the U.S. Virgin Islands for special dinners, including the one hosted for Charles Lindbergh on Jan. 31, 1928, as part of his Goodwill Tour following his successful non-stop flight to Paris, France.
CONDITION: 21 pieces overall very good condition with light use wear, no chips or cracks. 1 flared cup with hairline to one side. 1 underplate with fleabite to underside of rim.
