Southern Sugar Press, Kentucky or Middle Tennessee, cherry primary, poplar secondary. Constructed in two pieces, the upper rectangular dovetailed case having a hinged lid with applied molding and a divided interior; the base with a single long dovetailed drawer with divided interior and wood pulls, above two paneled and hinged doors, paneled sides, and ring turned tapered feet. Faded contemporary inscription on back left board references "Corolla Miller of Louisville, KY". 46 1/4" H x 37" W x 18 3/4" D. Second quarter of the 19th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Tennessee Collection.
CONDITION: Refinished surface and overall general wear. Horizontal separation to top from wood shrinkage. Replaced hinges and lock; area of wood loss to back left hinge area at lid. Drawer interior dividers have been replaced with old wood. Abrasion to lower left stile; wood loss at lower left front foot. Glue blocks for underside of upper case are replacements.
