Rudolf "Rudi" Hess (California, 1903-1986) oil on panel expressionist painting depicting a red human block figure in a brown, desert landscape, a large ziggurat type structure in the background below two moons. Signed "Rudi Hess" en verso of canvas board. Conservator label en verso of paper backing. Float mounted in a painted wooden frame. Sight – 12" H x 10" W. Framed – 11 1/4" H x 13 1/8" W. Note: California artist Rudolf Hess was a painter and sculptor, not to be confused with the German Nazi party official of the same name. He studied at the California School of Fine Art and exhibited at galleries and events including the San Francisco Modern Art Inaugural of 1935, the Modern Art Gallery (solo show, 1927), the Oakland Art Gallery and the Crocker Art Gallery.
