Very large Italian Baroque Style giltwood wall mirror, oval, with cherub figural and foliate carved surround. The outer frame is surmounted by a scrolled crest with a central figural cherub sounding a horn with additional carved volute, leaf, swagged fruit, dragon mask, figural cherubs with instruments and mask carvings throughout, terminating into a figural cherub sounding a horn finial. Mirror: 33 3/4" H x 23 3/4" W. Overall: Approx. 70" H x 50" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Pia Stratton, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Mirror with some losses to silvering. Frame has been reinforced with pine backing for stability. Scattered losses and wear to gilt and gesso, some scattered old break repairs and visible vertical wood shrinkage to joints and other areas.
