Memphis, Tennessee coin silver cup or mug with beaded rims, hollow squared double C scroll handle, and presentation engraving "To Robert Binkley Snowden from his grandmother Snowden, March 19, 1869." Marked on underside in rectangles: F.H.CLARK & CO. and MEMPHIS along with GW&H for Gale, Wood and Hughes (New York). 3 1/2" H, 5.06 oz troy. Note: this cup descended in the prominent Snowden family of Memphis, Tennessee and was used at their historic mansion Annesdale, which still stands in the city's Midtown area. The mansion was a wedding gift in 1868 to Col. Robert Bogardus Snowden (1836-1909) and Annie Overton Brinkley (1845-1923) from her father, tycoon Robert Campbell Brinkley. Robert Binkley Snowden was the couple's firstborn son. Several other pieces of silver, documents, and paintings that descended in the family are also being offered in this auction.
CONDITION: Some denting and marks erasure to underside, otherwise very good condition.
