American School oil on canvas oval portrait painting depicting a young woman, possibly Lucy McClung's mother, with dark hair curled in ringlets, attired in a white gown with lace and bead decoration and a pleated skirt, and wearing a bracelet on her right wrist. She stands in front of a plain backdrop next to a pink rose resting on a table. Unsigned. Housed in a period Louis XV style giltwood and gesso frame. Sight: 35" H x 28" W. Framed: 49" H x 37 1/2" W. Late 19th century.
PROVENANCE: the Estate of Emilee Barnes Frincke, Knoxville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall light craquelure and some flea-bite losses. Small area of inpainting on sitter's forehead, visible under UV inspection. See black light photos for reference. Frame with cracking and repaired breaks.
