Classical Revival Sterling Silver Oval Tray with engraved Medallion decoration to center surrounding a vacant central monogram reserve, enclosed in a guilloche chased border, all raised on four scrolled paw feet. Stamped on underside for Ball, Black & Co., New York, 925/1000 and "sterling". Measures 16"W x 12"D x 1 1/4"H. 34.25 oz troy. Circa 1868. This tray descended in the prominent Brinkley – Snowden family of Memphis, Tennessee and was used at their historic mansion Annesdale, which still stands in the city's Midtown area. The mansion was a wedding gift in 1868 to Col. Robert Bogardus Snowden (1836-1909) and Annie Overton Brinkley (1845-1923) from her father, tycoon Robert Campbell Brinkley, and remained in the family for more than a century. Several other pieces of silver, documents, and paintings from Annesdale are also being offered in this auction.
CONDITION: Excellent condition, minimal surface wear/scratching.
