John Speed map of Italy, carte-a-figures with four vignettes of couples in costume on either side, 6 small city views at top, including Verona, Naples, Venice, Rome, Genoa, and Florence. From A PROSPECT OF THE MOST FAMOUS PARTS OF THE WORLD. Framed with glass on both sides to show English text en verso. 15 3/8" H x 20 1/4" W (39.3 x 51.5 cm). Plate – 16 1/2" H x 21 1/4" W. Framed – 18 3/4" H x 21 1/2" W. 2nd map: Antonio Zatta: L'ELVEZIA DIVISA NE SUOI TREDICI CANTONI, E SUOI ALLEATI DI NUOVA PROJEZIONE, Published Venice, 1781. Copper-engraved map of Switzerland with decorative vignette cartouche upper left. Float mounted atop mat in a plain later giltwood frame. Plate – 12 3/4" H x 16 3/8" W. Sheet – 15" H x 19 3/8" W. Framed – 20" H x 24" W. Condition: 1st map: Overall toning aside from a light stripe down center of image (likely from former binding), some tiny corner losses visible in upper left corner. 2nd map: Considerable creasing to right margin. Scattered foxing and light toning. Tiny tear upper right corner and some small holes in greenery of cartouche. Lower right margin appears slightly trimmed. Neither map examined out of frame.
