Collection of Thirteen (13) Chinese Sancai glazed pottery figural roof tiles or tomb figures. 1st-2nd items: Pair (2) of mirrored figural roof tiles depicting the god of immortality, Shouxing, wearing a green robe, holding a staff and peach, and riding a cow upon a pierced green plinth base. Both items with remnants of red wax export seal to plinth bases. 3rd-4th items: Pair (2) of mirrored figure roof tiles depicting Shouxing wearing a blue robe and riding a cow upon a pierced green plinth base impressed with knot motif. Both items with remnants of red wax export seal to plinth bases. 5th item: Buddha figure seated upon a lotus base with hands in Manidhara or Anjali Mudra. Remnants of red wax export seal detached but included. 6th-7th items: Two (2) figural roof tiles depicting a warrior in blue robe and elaborate helmet riding an elephant upon green plinth base. Both items with remnants of red wax export seal to base. 8th-9th items: Two (2) terracotta tomb figures or attendants depicted wearing green-glazed robes and painted faces standing on square bases. 10th-12th items: Three (3) tomb figures or attendants depicted wearing green-glazed clothing and red hats holding various objects or offerings and standing on square bases. 13th item: Tomb figure or attendant depicted wearing a green-glazed robe and holding a scroll. Stamped "Made in China" and character seal blind stamp to underside. Ranging in size from 7 1/2" H x 2 1/4" W x 2" D to 13 3/4" H x 6 3/4" W x 3 3/4" D. 20th century and earlier.
CONDITION: 1st-12th items: All items with scattered minor losses to glaze, largest area measuring 1 3/4" x 1/4". All items with craquelure throughout, surface grime, and minor surface wear commensurate with age. Scattered sticker residue to all pieces. 1st-2nd items: Minor scattered hairlines to glaze, largest measuring approximately 3" L. One figure with loss to cow's horn. 3rd-4th items: One figure with loss to cow's horn. 5th item: Slight scattered losses, largest measuring 3/4" x 3/8". 8th-9th items: Both heads detached from bodies; one with tape residue to neck. Wear to painted elements commensurate with age. 10th-12th items: Wear to painted elements commensurate with age. 13th item: Overall very good condition. Note: Some wax seals appear to have been affixed with later tape or glue.
