French Provincial walnut panetiere or bread box, scrolled crest with foliate and laurel swags surmounted by urn finials above ball-and-ring spindled case; central door having rose issuing from vase and iron components, including pierced scrolling escutcheon and large spindle hinge; over scrolled apron with floral spray on snail feet. 36 3/8" H x 34 3/4" W x 17 1/4" D. Circa 1830-1850.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Peggy Lambert, Maryville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Scattered surface wear commensurate with age, including evidence of old wormwood and insect damage primarily to interior of door. Two, possibly three, of the finials likely replaced, one having corresponding glue residue. Top is possibly an early replacement, potentially with missing latch, area measuring 1 1/2" x 12". Wear around original top hinges including loss to wood measuring 1/2" x 12". Old repair to door to interior near hinge. Later added floral wallpaper lining and fitted glass bottom to interior. Retains key.
