Carl Sublett (Tennessee, 1919-2008), "Winter Lean," watercolor on paper landscape depicting a bare snow-laden tree line on a low ridge with the foremost tree having a distinct leftward tilt and a bright sky in the background. Titled, dated, and signed in pencil "Winter Lean 72 Sublett" lower right. Housed and double matted under glass in a black frame with chrome fillet. Sight: 25 1/4" H x 23 3/4" W. Framed: 33 1/2" H x 30" W. Biography: Carl Sublett studied Art History at the American Academy in Florence, Italy after World War II and became Professor of Fine Art at the University of Tennessee. Sublett was a member of the National Academy of Design. His works are in the collections of the National Academy of Design, The Tennessee State Museum, and Cheekwood Museum of Art, Nashville.
PROVENANCE: Private Nashville, TN Collection.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition minute discoloration of paper at lower border. Not examined outside of frame. Frame with slight scattered surface abrasions.
