Pair of Late Empire or Charles X patinated and gilt bronze figural candelabra, each with five branches issuing from cornucopia, held by putti atop circular siecle decorated with burnishing and flower designs, on stepped square bases. The candle arms are modelled as maidens in the mouths of sea monsters or giant fish, the drip pans are decorated with flowers. 27 3/4"H x 10 1/2" W. French, circa 1815. Provenance: estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr. of Nashville, Tenn. Published in Art and Antiques Magazine, Jan. 1999 article on LaGrone home. Purchased from Gavin Douglas Antique Clocks and Objects, London, 1998. Condition: One arm unattached and bent with a broken screw. Some wear but retaining the original mercury gilt ormolu and patination, a couple of replaced threads and nuts.
