Federal inlaid mahogany chest of drawers poplar and white pine secondary. Serpentine-front overhanging top, having chamfered corners and flame-veneered front edges accented with string inlay, over a conforming case with highly figured veneered and graduated drawers, having contrasting string inlay to the edges and oval Federal eagle inlaid reserves to the centers. Brass escutcheons and round brass pulls. Canted front corners with string box inlay flanking each drawer; paneled sides. Serpentine apron, also with Federal eagle inlaid reserve, and bracket feet. 37" H x 40 1/2" W x 21 1/2" D. Possibly Eastern Virginia, Circa 1800.
PROVENANCE: The Tina McWhorter Trust; from the collection of John and Tina McWhorter, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Old refinish. Circular patch to 2nd drawer, repairs to both front feet facings. Scattered small losses, abrasions, spots of wear and minor repairs.
