American Chippendale mahogany tilt top candle stand, attributed to Philadelphia, 18th century, with circular molded "dish" top above a birdcage support; turned ball-and-ring baluster form pedestal over three curved legs terminating in ball and claw feet. 28 5/8" H x 22 1/2" dia. Circa 1770. Note: old label to underside reads "Mrs. Jean MacFarlane / Salem Center / Purdys NY" with illegible numbers, likely the identity of a past owner.
PROVENANCE: The Tina McWhorter Trust; from the collection of John and Tina McWhorter, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Old refinish with traces of old, possibly original surface on the pedestal. Some old burn marks and wear to top and some scattered losses to molded edge. Baluster, legs and feet with light general wear to the finish.
