Early silk on linen school girl sampler, dated 1808. Floral border with alphabet over two rows of bird and flower and tree designs, over a verse: "Favour is deceitful and/t beuty is vain but woman/ that feareth the Lord The-/mall will be praised." Lower row features urns of flowers and date, also "RS 12" (possibly initials and age). Later green-painted frame with old Marshall Field's label on back. Condition: 1 1/4" hole and other small holes, some color run at lower edge. 11 1/4" x 8 1/2" sight, 12" x 9 1/2" framed. American or English, early 19th century.
