Angel De Service Espoy (California, 1879-1963) oil on canvas seascape depicting waves crashing into a rocky shore at sunset. Housed in a foliate carved gilt frame. Signed lower right. Sight – 27 1/2" H x 37" W. Framed – 34 3/8" H x 44 1/4" W. Biography: Known for paintings that evidence his great love of the sea, Angel Espoy did work that includes seascapes and maritime subjects. He was also an accomplished painter of California's rolling hills of poppies and lupines. (source: AskArt). Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. CONDITION: Very good condition with yellowed varnish. Unvarnished or clean test in upper right corner. 2 areas of moderate craquelure on lower right and left.
