Chippendale period mahogany and parcel gilt "Constitution" looking glass or wall mirror with carved eagle surmounting a scrolled pediment with gilt molding and rosette ends; the original mirror glass is framed in a carved and gilded border with notched top corners, the outer frame with a scrolled, voluted and cyma-shaped base and the sides are flanked by carved and gilded leaves. 55" H x 26" W. American or English, circa 1760-1770. Provenance: Originally purchased from Israel Sack, Inc., New York, 1998. Copies of the original receipt available to the winning bidder.
PROVENANCE: The Tina McWhorter Trust; from the collection of John and Tina McWhorter, Memphis, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with wear commensurate with age, some silvering and losses to mirror, mostly to the lower half. (approx. 50%). Includes a custom crate for shipping.
