Continental School, 19th century, oil on panel full length portrait of a white-haired and bearded man, likely a Biblical figure, depicted seated on a stone ledge, cloth draped across his lap, with a man or woman's head leaning into the painting at left and figures in the background with arms raised. Mountains at sunset are visible beyond the figures. Unsigned. Paper label en verso: Atelier de reliure / encadrements en tous genres / Hutmacher-Schalch/ Chaux de _onds. Giltwood cove molded frame. 12-3/4" x 9-3/4" sight, 17" x 13-3/4" framed. Provenance: the estate of Mrs. Adna Godfrey Wilde, Jr. (Sara Joan Wilde), Colorado Springs, CO. Condition: Overall craquelure, 1" area of inpainting to left of subject's head, in background, near subject's left hand, and to several spots on lower 1/4 of panel. Wear and some abrasions and small losses (up to 3/4") to frame, particularly at outer edges.
