Gertrude Binney Smith (Massachusetts, 1873-1932) impressionist oil on board maritime painting with light impasto depicting moored and sailing fishing boats alongside a dock with a large building with bay shoreline and townscape in the background. Signed in blue lower left "G. Binney Smith."Printed label reading, "Gertrude's Painting, PP/T" in pencil, and a label reading, "80-240," top right, en verso. Housed in a molded giltwood frame. Sight: 19 3/4" H x 15 1/8" W. Framed: 22 3/8" H x 17 3/4" W. Note: Gertrude Binney Smith was known for landscape and marine paintings, and exhibited with the Gloucester Society of Artists in Massachusetts. (Source: the New York Times, Sept. 7, 1930).
PROVENANCE: Estate of Carl Klein, Brentwood, TN.
CONDITION: Overall good condition with some surface grime and scattered areas of exfoliation throughout. Small tack holes at each corner and at the center top and bottom along with a slight warping of the board. Craquelure on the giltwood frame.
