Paul Lancaster (Tennessee, b. 1930) mixed paper collage landscape scene depicting a village with trees, set behind a multi-colored field, with colorful clouds overhead. Signed "Lancaster" in pencil lower right. Float mounted atop a cream mat with brown deckle edge border and set atop a larger gray mat. Housed in a burlwood frame with parquetry inlaid border. Image/Sheet: 9 7/8" x 7 7/8". Framed: 16 3/4" x 14 1/2". Biography: Self-taught artist Paul Lancaster began painting in the late 1950s in Colorado, while training as an Army medic. His grandfather and great grandfather were Cherokee Indian, and Lancaster's love of nature and spirituality influence many of his canvases. His work has been included in numerous exhibitions including The Art of Tennessee at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and a 2013 one man show at the Parthenon in Nashville, which brought together many of his works created over the last 50 years. CONDITION: Possible light toning; overall excellent condition.
